Varsity Teams:

With 37 varsity men’s and women’s teams, Princeton University boasts one of the largest and most successful athletic programs within both NCAA Division I and the Ivy League.  Almost 18 percent of undergraduates are involved in varsity sports. Equally important is that this robust athletic program, comprising world-class coaches and student-athletes, contributes significantly to the university’s vibrant campus life and upholds a strong tradition of competitive excellence. Coach Samara, the coach for track and field for 46 years, retired in 2023 at the age of 73. He was a U.S. Olympic decathlete in 1976 and represented the United States as a coach at multiple international events during his career. While fully focused on the field, these student-athletes complete a senior thesis, the capstone scholarly project that Princeton students produce before graduating. “This academic-athletic balance requires a high level of collaboration with professors and academic partners across campus,” says Mack, the university’s athletic director.

Princeton University hosts over 70 sports camps and clinics annually on its beautiful and historic campus in the heart of Princeton, New Jersey. Overnight campers stay in university dormitories and dine at various campus dining facilities. Each camp is directed by Princeton’s varsity coaches with assistance from college coaches and players from around the country, providing a comprehensive and immersive athletic experience for all participants.
